Registration Tips & Troubleshooting
1. The first email you receive is auto-generated, and for class confirmation only, the pricing will not include discounts and materials fees. Please confirm your class selections, and follow the link to an important survey with information for your Sages.
2. Within a few days, you will receive an email from our Quickbooks account with an accurate tuition statement. Please be sure to click the box in that email to accept , which allows us to continue the registration process.
3. You will receive an invoice for the amount due. If you are paying by credit card, there will be a link to make your payment. If you are paying by check or zelle, there will be instructions to complete your transaction.
Campus Calendar
Orientation will be on August 14th, and classes will begin on August 21st. Our last day of classes is May 14th (unless we need a weather make-up day on the 21st). Any student who has a class in 3rd or 4th period is welcome to join our campus events over lunch. These experiences are some of the best parts of Bailiwicks!

Below are the class descriptions as provided by each Sage. Our Sages like to keep things flexible and fun, and so the path of the course may deviate slightly based on the interests of the students. Please note the expected homework rating for each class, understanding that your student might work more quickly or more slowly than average. It is important that all students complete their homework, however modifications based on individual skillsets may be discussed with the Sage. We look forward to seeing you on campus!

Hear veterans from Brevard County explore war history through the eyes of the soldiers. Each week will explore a specific war, with different veterans presenting stories and discussing the weapons and military jobs at the time. A living history chest from the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center will provide opportunity to view uniforms and historical artifacts.

Embark on a journey filled with classic heroes, gods, tricksters, and monsters as we venture into worlds we thought we knew.
We will begin by exploring the realm of mythology and legends, learning of their importance, relevance, and influence on their respective cultures.
Afterwards, we will travel to lands both familiar and new by reading fairy and folk tales that have withstood the test of time, and compare and analyze how various cultures have made the same story their own.
Through hands-on and interactive activities, we will be able to nourish our understanding of symbolism, themes, motifs, and story structures. By the end of the course, students will be able to identify the deeper meanings of classics and how they’ve shaped our world today, and will even be able to create their own retelling fit for the ages!

On with the show! In this Drama course, you’ll learn all about the fundamentals of acting! Explore the various aspects of theater and acting through improv and scene work. Discuss, analyze, and compose your own scenes and scripts. Experience what it’s like to be a performer! This workshop will teach you about stage direction, character development, and working together as a cast. Drama is a great way to make friends and a fun way to express yourself!

Explore differences and similarities among the world’s religions to understand the diversity of human beliefs and practices. This class will be presented with respect to all beliefs and without preference to any particular religion. It will be instructed by the pastor of Ascension Lutheran, who previously taught the subject at the college level.

¡Hola chicos y chicas! Get ready to have a blast in our dynamic Spanish introductory class tailor-made for middle school students! Join us for a fun-filled exploration of the Spanish language and culture, where we will use hands on activities and games to begin working on growing our conversational skills. From friendly competitions to creative projects, this class is designed to make learning Spanish a fun and hands-on experience. Students may be asked to bring in materials for group projects, such as poster board and artistic supplies occasionally.

While using the Writing & Rhetoric books 6 and 10 curriculum as a guide (both focused on thesis), students will learn to craft educated argumentative and expository essays, and hone their skills in the art of persuasion by using rhetorical devices. Through group games and discussions that challenge critical thinking, students will learn how to write effective paragraphs and to lengthen their essays in a way that builds their argument rather than repeating them. Being able to revise an essay on your own is a critical writing skill, which students will be able to practice and enhance with their own essays and with their peers’.
Once we’ve built a solid foundation, we will begin to read and bring to class Where the Red Fern Grows, and create analysis/interpretive and universal questions for socratic seminar discussions. Character analyses, main ideas, literary devices, rhetorical devices, and themes will be explored. To end the course, students will have the opportunity to create their own short stories using what we’ve learned, and present them to the class with the public speaking skills we’ve improved on.

Do you love music? Do you like to sing? Then join Songs of Yesterday & Today! You will learn to blend your voice and harmonize with fellow singers. You’ll learn all about popular culture and different genres of music in the United States from the 1920s through the 2020s. Learn how to sing with confidence and style!

This course will focus on power chords, barre chords, pentatonic scales and how to improv. They will solo and play along with some of their favorite songs and even create their own chord progressions to build their own songs.

If you like writing and creating, then this class is for you! Creative Writing provides a chance for you to hone your writing skills. In this course, you will write poetry, songs, comics, short stories, and much more. You will analyze other authors’ works to better understand your own, and learn the fundamental elements of creating characters and stories. This class is a safe place to get feedback from your peers and exchange ideas freely.

The dead can’t tell us how they died, so it’s up to us to uncover their stories and give them a voice after theirs was taken from them. In this hands-on, interactive forensics class, students will apply scientific principles to solving criminal cases, and learn how a crime scene and trace evidence can link detectives to the culprit of a crime through a series of experiments and role-play.
They will also learn the importance of a body in crime investigation, and the different ways they can tell detectives important information, including the victim’s age, sex, and time of death. A guided rat dissection will be conducted to study anatomy and gain a better understanding of how our bodies work.
At the end of the course, students will be able to apply what they’ve learned to analyze a murder mystery, and create a presentation for who they believe the culprit is and why.
*Notice: Sensitive topics and content will be discussed. Fake case studies will be created to mimic real investigations. At times, real cases relevant to the week’s topic will be discussed. We may watch episodes of forensic-centered shows (including Forensic Files and Genetic Detective). If you or your parent(s) want you to be exempt from any of this, please let me know so alternatives can be arranged.

Afternoon

Study astronomy like the professionals! Survey galaxies, track asteroids, monitor variable stars, and learn about the nature and methods of science in a program made possible by the National Science Foundation and collaborators from top universities. The Skynet Robotic Telescope Network includes over 20 telescopes located around the world. Students will control these telescopes through a web-based interface to take stunning photos of the celestial objects they study. Using various filters available on the telescopes, students will learn to layer photos and create the type of color images seen in professional magazines, all while learning the fundamentals of the science of astronomy!

Trash to Treasure or Used to Renewed… any way you slice it, this class teaches students to look at items in a new light. Upcycling pushes the boundaries of conventional art by forcing the artist to infuse artistic value into items that would normally contribute to environmental pollution. It is an eco-friendly class designed to reduce the amount of trash that ends up in our local landfills by creating something new out of materials normally deemed unworthy.
Throughout the year, students will complete awesome projects using independent imagination and found pieces of trash. Including these projects and many more….
- Hot pads out of denim
- Beautiful tie-backs for curtains out of toilet tissue rolls – yes, toilet tissue cardboard rolls
- Create a hide-a-key container out of a pill bottle and a yard rock
- Changing an old frame into a denim wrapped delight
Periodically, students will be given a list of needed items. The list will include general trash, used or outgrown items such as prescription bottles and lids, coffee cans, old jeans, old t-shirts, toilet tissue rolls, paper towel tubes, old pillow cases, empty glass jars, old crayons, wine bottles, wooden pallets, and so on. Each item will need to be cleaned before being brought to class.
Students will learn to follow their own imagination while working on several charitable projects where we donate the items we make to local organizations.

Welcome to Applied Science: Sea Turtles and Marine Biology! In this engaging and hands-on course, students will dive into the captivating world of sea turtles and explore the fascinating field of marine biology. Technology Exploration is a comprehensive course that aims to introduce a variety of technology subjects, including basic electronics, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, electronics programming, website and database programming, CAD, and 3D printing. The course will culminate in a hands-on project. This year’s project is tbd, as an example, last year students worked together to build an interactive robotic dragon powered by OpenAI.
This class requires the use of a personal computer with wifi capability, which students should bring from home to class. Limited loaner computers will be available for use during class time.

If you’re ready to transform geometry from a chore into a captivating adventure this is the class for you. In this class, we’re throwing out the protractors and embracing a hands-on approach to geometry that’s as fun as it is educational. You’ll ditch the dull textbooks and embark on a journey filled with exciting projects that’ll have you seeing shapes in a whole new light. From building towering geometric structures to creating mind-bending optical illusions, we’ll explore the world of geometry through a lens of creativity and innovation. Whether you’re sculpting 3D shapes out of clay, designing your own geometric art masterpiece, or constructing a mini-golf course filled with geometric challenges, every project is a chance to use your mathematical knowledge and unleash your inner artist.

We will explore the influence society has on individual perspectives through Pride and Prejudice, the dazzling riches in The Great Gatsby, thought-provoking themes in Frankenstein, the power of figurative language in Of Mice and Men, challenging messages in Fahrenheit 451, the timeless life lessons in The Scarlet Letter, and finally, the power of Shakespeare in Julius Caesar.
There will be many opportunities to interact with the text through fun activities, including role-play, escape rooms, games, parties, and more! We will annotate our books to help us craft gripping socratic seminar questions to critically analyze the books we are reading and respectfully discuss our views.
There will be six MLA formatted essays to help you strengthen your writing and reading skills. By the end of the year, you will be a master!
Please note that the books listed in this description will have to be acquired prior to the time the syllabus says we will begin reading them. The book(s) and a digital device (laptop, phone, etc.) will have to be brought to class. There is a $3 materials fee for some of the activities. We may watch movies based on the books we read for class, and the books we read may contain content warnings.

Ready to start inventing? Combine scratch programming and the physical components of a Makey Makey electronics set. Different hands-on projects will be completed in class each week, such as banana pianos, game controllers, musical instruments, and light-up paper circuits. In the Spring, the class will expand beyond the Makey-Makey to apply concepts learned to unique electronic inventions.

Join me on a magical journey where biology meets fantasy! Students will be able to recognize the magic around them by bridging the gap between ecological principles and fantasy worlds. We’ll read captivating descriptions of ecological landscapes from well-known books, including Wings of Fire and Harry Potter. We will also be reading The Hobbit to connect the concepts highlighted in it to course material via socratic seminars and group discussions. Through hands-on activities and group projects, students will learn about the different ecosystems and climates of our world, adaptations of fauna and flora, human-environment relationships, and so much more! At the end of the course, students will be able to create their own plausible fantasy maps and lush, unique worlds to present to their peers. The Skynet Robotic Telescope Network includes over 20 telescopes located around the world. Nothing is more voracious than a student’s stomach! In this course, we will use (and eat) food to create diagrams on basic biological concepts, including nutrient uptake, plant anatomy, and nutritional content. As we dive into the organs and processes of digestion, we will have the opportunity to perform a rat dissection! Through hands-on activities, you can dive into the world of agriculture and how humans have impacted plants over the years. We will take a closer look at the heart of food sustainability, and craft educated debates around the pros and cons of GMOs. There will even be an opportunity to perform an experiment and write a report on your findings like a true scientist!
