The Bailiwicks Partnership

The Bailiwicks Vision and Mission

The Bailiwicks Homeschool Enrichment Campus exists to supplement and complement the efforts of parents who have chosen to be their children’s primary educators. Our mission is to partner with parents and educators (we call them Sages) to provide homeschooled students the best of both worlds - bringing together the dynamic experiences of traditional school classrooms and the freedoms of homeschooled education. Our professionally coordinated campus day allows Sages to offer their classes to students in a way that is more convenient for parents and more cohesive and fun for students.

Educational Partnership

Bailiwicks Homeschool Enrichment Campus is a 501c(3) Not-for-profit Organization open to homeschooled children in grades 6 through 12. Parents remain the primary instructional provider, with our Sage's programs supplementing and complementing their efforts. Our Sages cannot provide for the full academic and educational needs of homeschooled students in just one day per week. Parents must remain actively involved in their students’ education on a daily basis, providing the sequential educational program needed for their students. Our Sages are here to provide subject matter expertise, group learning, and enrichment activities.

Enrichment? What does THAT mean?

Your homeschool provides the foundation, and we build upon your scaffolding with experiences that are difficult to achieve at home. When Sages are planning their classes, they consider:

Communication

Each Sage will set up an online space (such as Canvas and Google Classroom) for communication of assignments. Please encourage students to develop self guidance and organization skills by frequently checking the online space. Not all assignments will be communicated during class. You may assist your student as developmentally appropriate with homework assignments. If you need to request modification of homework assignments for your student, please communicate proactively with Sages.

Please provided Sage emails for all communication with Sages and other staff. Bailiwicks employees, Sages, and students should not in any circumstances be exchanging personal communication or meeting privately outside of Campus. Conversations should be kept focused on academic areas relevant to subject matter in Bailiwicks classes.

Any communication with the school will come from administrative emails. In addition to important Campus updates, site assistants will share information such as pizza day and school spirit days. Please add announcements@Bailiwicks.org to your contact list so that updates are not filtered to your junk mailbox.

Homework Ratings

To assist in schedule selection when planning how Bailiwicks fits into your homeschool, we provide homework ratings for each class. The rating of a class indicates the likely amount of homework that the class will require each week. Please understand that the amount of homework is based on the expected average time to complete assignments. Your student might work more quickly or slowly than the average student.

1= No homework outside of class time
2= Minimal outside homework, not to typically exceed one hour per week
3= Approximately two hours homework per week
4= Approximately three hours homework and significant parent involvement each week
5= Four or more hours homework and significant parent involvement each week

It is very important for parents to partner with their students' Sages to understand what homework is due, and to work with students at home to complete assignments. Sages will communicate with students and their parents about which classroom portal will be used (such as Canvas or Google Classroom). Students and parents are responsible for checking the portal, communicating with Sages to ask questions, and ensuring that work is completed and submitted on time. It is disruptive for Sages and other students when homework is not completed If you would like to request modification in homework assignments due to the unique learning abilities of your student, please contact your Sages before assignments are due.

Parent/Student Agreement for All Classes Rated 4 or 5

Classes rated 4 or 5 are rigorous classes that require daily instruction and coordination with parents. Please do not enroll in these classes unless you are committed to the coursework. By enrolling in these classes, you acknowledge that significant work will be required outside of class time, and agree to keep up with assignments.

Florida Homeschool Law

Bailiwicks Enrichment Campus is neither a private school nor an umbrella school. All students enrolled in our classes must comply with all rules and regulations of homeschooling or their umbrella schools.

Conflict Resolution

If an issue arises, please remember there are different perspectives in every situation, and seek first to understand. We are here to assist and support all members of our community. We strive to resolve conflicts peacefully while maintaining dignity and respect for all involved. We request parents contact an appropriate staff member to share any concerns. If the situation is not resolved, contact Administration, Pam Stone at pam@bailiwicks.org or Nicki James at nicki@bailiwicks.org .

Weather Policy

If the Brevard County Schools are closed due to weather, Bailiwicks will also be canceled and either a refund will be made or a makeup day will be scheduled. Generally, if Brevard County Schools schedules a "late start" due to weather, Bailiwicks will proceed as scheduled. If there is inclement weather, please check the Brevard County Schools official communication, and look for an email from us by 8 am. Parents are encouraged to consider local weather and driving conditions when deciding to attend classes that are held during inclement weather.

Daily Procedures

Attendance

Our classes meet one day per week so missed days can quickly cause a student to fall behind. Additionally, because we are fortunate to have a low student/Sage ratio, absences impact the rest of the class and the interactive group work our Sages plan for students. For these reasons, we request that families schedule appointments and vacations on days and times that do not conflict with classes.

If a student misses four (4) or more days of a class in a semester, six (6) or more days of a class during the course of the school year, or has habitual or excessive tardies, the parent will be contacted and an attendance meeting may be scheduled. Students may be placed on an attendance plan, may lose the privilege of enrolling at Bailiwicks Homeschool Enrichment Campus for the remainder of the current year, or of re-enrolling the following year. Students who have not attended by the third week of classes may forfeit their enrollment for the current school year. Extenuating circumstances will be considered when discussing a student’s attendance.

Reporting an Absence

Please let us know if your student is going to be absent, arrive late, or need to leave early. You can notify us in one of three ways:

1. Deliver a notification in writing of a future absence to us during drop-off or pick-up.
2. email: admin@bailiwicks.org
3. Call 321-527-9901

Please be sure to include the following information:
● Student’s name
● Parent’s name
● Date
● Phone number where we can reach you if there are questions

Lunches

Water and non-messy snacks can be brought from home and consumed between classes. Food should not be eaten in the classroom unless permission is given by a Sage or staff member. Additionally, students will bring their own lunch from home each week. Colored liquids are allowed at lunch if eaten outside. Lunches should not require refrigeration or a microwave. Bailiwicks will occasionally hosts Pizza Day where students can order pizza by the slice for lunch. Information will be provided in advance.

Committees

We have several volunteer committees that help make our campus experience robust; Field Trip Committee, Community Committee, and Fundraising Committee. Each committee meets once per month on campus. We encourage ae all parents to volunteer for a committee and participate in campus!

Volunteer Support

We value our parent volunteers and will make opportunities for volunteering available when possible. Parents willing to supervise at lunch and between classes are especially appreciated! If you wish to volunteer or to attend a class for any reason, please contact Educational Director, Nicki James (nicki@bailiwicks.org) to arrange. When possible, parents will be invited into the building for performances and student recognition events.

Student Conduct Guidelines

Behavior

Bailiwicks’ standards of behavior are designed to partner with families in encouraging development of character traits such as integrity, courtesy, responsibility, self-control, honesty, compassion, and kindness. We appreciate parental support in maintaining a high standard for behavior while on campus.  Any behavior that is disruptive in any way will be brought to the parent’s attention and dealt with promptly at school so that disruptions will be minimized and expectations clearly upheld. Students who violate these policies are subject to loss of participation or privileges.

Minor recurring offense: If a student continues to act in an inappropriate way, the student will be given the opportunity to refocus and change his/her behavior. If necessary, a staff member will contact the parent to discuss the behavioral concern.
Minor ongoing offense: The student and parent will be asked to attend a conference with the Educational Director which may result in loss of participation, suspension, or expulsion.

Depending on the severity of the student’s action, major behavior violations may result in immediate classroom removal.

We request families to discuss at home before the first day of class:

  • We are guests in a building with religious significance to many people. Regardless of personal faith, the property should be treated with reverence and respect.

  • Sages are sharing a gift of time and expertise. While we do not encourage blind obedience to authority, we do ask that students and parents treat our Sages with respect and appreciation.

Dress Code

Bailiwicks recognizes that students have a right to express themselves through dress and personal appearance. However, we must also ensure that the environment is conducive to concentration and learning. Students may not wear apparel that is deemed disruptive or potentially disruptive to the classroom environment or to the maintenance of a safe and orderly school. The Bailiwicks administration reserves the right to determine if any aspect of dress or appearance is inappropriate and/or distracting and must be changed during the school day. Parents will be notified if there are recurring problems with dress code adherence or if there is a situation that needs to be dealt with before the end of the school day. Students should also wear appropriate attire on school-related trips away from Bailiwicks. Parents seeking exemptions to the dress code for reasons such as religious beliefs, medical necessity, or economic hardship should contact Pam Stone (pam@bailiwicks.org).

  • No article of clothing that is designed to be worn as underclothing should be seen or worn as outer clothing.

Students refusing to hand over their cell phones will be sent to the front desk. If the student persists in resisting, the parent will be called to pick the student up for the day. If a student must be contacted during the school day, please call the front desk and a staff member will be happy to provide assistance.

Digital Citizenship

With digital privileges come digital responsibilities. Bailiwicks staff will require students to use technology in a safe, responsible, and appropriately educational way to promote positive online interactions:
